what to do

Water

From taking a boat out on the Columbia, to visiting various aquatic centers across Grant County, water activities are almost always an option. Many of our local campgrounds have direct access to lakes and rivers.

Kayaking, canoeing, rafting, rowing, paddleboarding, wakeboarding, waterskiing, windsurfing, sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving - all of that and more is an option here.

fishing

Fishing & Hunting

Surrounding Moses Lake is nearly 250,000 surface acres of water. The fishing possibilities are practically endless. Many bodies of water are open year-round. The state of Washington has a focus on preservation, and the Columbia River is certainly no exception. Many nonprofits here actively work on rebuilding habitats and restoring natural supply. The same is true for hunting. Grant County has some of the best upland bird and waterfowl hunting in the nation.

Maps are available almost anywhere. As always, be safe, obtain the correct permits, and check state regulations for the most current information.

hiking

Hiking & Climbing

Washington is more than just vast evergreen forests. The Grant County area boasts numerous hiking and off-roading trails. Climbing areas abound near the Columbia River. Just watch out for rattlesnakes.

If you’d like to connect more with local history, several interpretive centers and museums can help. You could learn more about petroglyphs, the Ginkgo petrified forest, why we have a replica of Stonehenge, and other fascinating topics. The Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park and the Maryhill Museum of Fine Art are some particular favorites.

music

Music

The Gorge is one of the most scenic outdoor venues in the nation, and it’s drawn some pretty big names. Coldplay, Dave Matthews Band, Pearl Jam, Nickelback, and The Police - just to name a few. Nine miles west of George, this venue is very close by.

In addition to The Gorge, the Grant County Fairgrounds also hosts its own concert series. If you’re looking for a more symphonic type of concert, the Wenatchee Valley Symphony Orchestra and the Moses Lake Community Orchestra aren’t far away.

golf

Golf

Golfing is a favored pastime of Grant County. Some courses are partnered with campgrounds and wineries, and some just stand alone - so keep a close lookout. Because golfing is so common in the area, you’ll find it’s also very affordable here. Some fees can be as low as $10, according to Tour Grant County.

Some of our favorite (and nearest) recommended golf courses are Crescent Bar, Desert Aire, and Moses Pointe.

wineries

Wineries & Microbrews

With excellent sun and soil, vineyards and wineries have really taken off in the Columbia River region. The same is true of brewing; with a nearby source of hops, niche microbrews are surprisingly not hard to find. One of our favorite venues is the Cave B Estate Winery.

Most of these venues feature tours, tasting rooms, and special event calendars. Because this industry is so closely tied to other local agriculture, most wineries and breweries also feature excellent farm-to-table menus to compliment their beverages.

farmers markets

Farmers Markets

Washington has some of the most superior agriculture in the nation. Grant County is no exception. That means Farmers Markets. Everywhere. Most towns nearby have at least one market - Ephrata, Mattawa, Quincy, Moses Lake, and more.

You can find everything there from wheat and hay, to fruit and produce, and even herbs like mint and lavender. Agrotourism is also a specialty of this region, and you can visit many farms in addition to touring wineries and breweries.
